Sample design — each arrangement is made fresh with seasonal flowers
Our Flower Arrangement Philosophy
We don’t use a catalogue of fixed designs — unlike some funeral directors. Instead, our florists create fresh, thoughtful arrangements from seasonal blooms, gently guided by your preferences.
Our standard pricing includes flowers from trusted florists who craft with care and beauty.
What Kind of Arrangement?
The typical kind of arrangement of flowers on a coffin is known as a casket cover.
We usually ask: are there any colours or seasonal flowers you have in mind?
Popular choices include:
Multi-coloured
Whites and creams
Native flowers — usually for a man
Combining with the Colour of the Coffin or Casket
When choosing a floral arrangement, it is good to bear in mind the colour of the coffin or casket. In particular, if it is white, multi-coloured seasonal flowers work best. A maple or darker brown colour goes well with native flowers. Sometimes, families change the selection of coffin or casket based on the floral arrangement they prefer.
What Happens to the Flowers Afterwards?
The arrangement is yours to keep, if you wish. Some families take the flowers to where they are having refreshments and divide them into smaller bouquets for guests to take home.
Choosing a Florist
Some families prefer a florist they already know. Others like to meet someone local in person — we can suggest options.
Most prefer us to handle the flowers directly, which we’re happy to do. Below are the florists we work with in different areas.
The florists we work with depend on the location:
Greater Sydney – Urban Flower
Urban Flower create elegant arrangements and source some of their blooms from the Central Coast.
For long-stemmed roses — often chosen for the coffin — they use imported roses from Ecuador.
More importantly, several team members have been with them for years. That experience shows in the quality of their work. You can see their approach to floristry on their website, but their Instagram page has recent arrangements.
Blue Mountains — Springwood Florist
We have had good dealings with Springwood Florist. They are personable and share the same philosophy about floral design that we do.
They are the first florist to agree to publicly partner with Marc and Friends, in a similar way to how Marc’s great-grandfather did with his funeral service and florists in his day.
Whilst they have some flowers on their website for people who want to give gifts to family and friends who are grieving, given the particularly personal nature of the flowers for a coffin, they do not publish photos of the same. However, their website gives you an idea of what they do and their Instagram shows you what they have crafted recently.
Central Coast & Lower Hunter – Olivieri’s Florist
We’ve worked with Olivieri’s for many years, including through another funeral organisation.
What’s special is that they grow many of their own flowers — so freshness is never an issue.
Their arrangements are made with quiet elegance. You can visit their website for a general sense of their work, or head to their Instagram page for more current designs.
Wollongong and Illawarra — Hello Gorgeous Flower Studio
Hello Gorgeous offers thoughtful floral arrangements for families across the Illawarra, with no delivery fee when families are served by us. They prefer to speak directly with each family about what to include — or gently leave out — so the tribute reflects what matters most.
For families in Wollongong, they’re also open to more bespoke arrangements. Some choose to bring flowers from their own garden to be woven in. Others find comfort in crafting the tribute themselves, with friends or family, guided by the team.
You can see their recent work on Instagram or, alternatively, visit their website.
