Waratah Casket
The most distinctive coffin or casket we offer is the Waratah Casket. Made from recycled Blackbutt timber in collaboration with a local artisan on the NSW Central Coast, it reimagines traditional design through honest materials, restrained detailing, and carefully chosen fittings.
As you may have already read, it was submitted to the 2025 Australian Good Design Awards — given the thought and care behind its creation.
Marc recalls that the only times people have truly marvelled at a coffin or casket have been when they’ve seen the beauty with which this one was made.
As with all our coffins and caskets, we provide the Waratah Casket simply at cost. It is available for $2,499.

The Corners
A lot of work goes into ensuring the precision of the angles on the corners. And once joined, they are rounded by hand.
The Side Panels
These are made with panels inset, to make them a feature. The edges of the frame around them are carefully shaped by hand.
The Lid
Care was taken not to distract from the craftsmanship of the lid. While many caskets are sealed with visible screws, we’ve used a discreet alternative. The flat design leaves more room for flowers, personal tributes or keepsakes.
The Lining and Handles
Rather than the usual shiny satin, the lining is made from cotton linen in a natural tone.
Coffin handles are often plastic with shiny metal finishes, styled in designs from another era and draw unnecessary attention. We chose black metal handles instead — strong, simple, and in keeping with the timber.
The Waratah Casket in Progress
These two short videos were filmed beside the workshop, surrounded by bushland.
Not studio-perfect — but true to where and how it came to be.
